Cloud Engineer (Python)

Role type: Contract

Location: UK

Preferred start date: ASAP

LIFE AS A SATALIAN

As an organisation, we push the boundaries of data science, optimisation and artificial intelligence to solve the most complex problems in industry. Satalia, a WPP Company, is a community of individuals devoted to working on diverse and challenging projects, allowing you to flex your technical skills whilst working with a tight knit team of high performing colleagues.

Led by our founder (who is also WPP’s Chief AI Officer), Satalia’s ambition is to become a decentralised organisation of the future. Today this involves developing tools and processes to liberate and automate manual repetitive tasks, with a focus on freedom, transparency and trust. At the core of our thinking is an approach to wellbeing and inclusivity. We unpack human behaviour and unpick prejudice to ensure a safe and inviting environment. We offer true flexible working and allow our employees to find the working practice that makes them most productive. At Satalia, your opinion matters and your achievements are celebrated.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Python Cloud Engineer to build and run our cloud-based web APIs. Our solutions aren’t tied to one cloud, so we want someone with a solid grounding in cloud architecture on AWS, GCP or Azure (AWS preferred).
You’ll write enterprise-grade Python APIs, ship them as Docker images, and run them on Kubernetes alongside storage, pipelines and state stores. All infrastructure and deployment is automated with Terraform. You’ll join a product team building zero-to-one innovations on a multi-year roadmap, including optimising AI workloads that scale to meet client needs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build and maintain Python web APIs, containerised and cloud-agnostic

  • Provision and manage cloud resources with Terraform

  • Design scalable infrastructure using established design patterns and reference architectures

  • Own your deployments end to end, in a true DevOps model, and help the team manage infrastructure directly

  • Integrate with a range of systems, from modern SaaS APIs (GraphQL) to traditional FTP

  • Build observability and security into every design

  • Document architecture with diagrams-as-code

  • Work test-first, with quality built in

What we want from you:

· Strong experience building and deploying infrastructure on at least one major cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure), and the willingness to work across them

· Python and Docker for web APIs

· Kubernetes in production

· Terraform (CloudFormation or similar is a bonus)

· Git and DevOps practice, ideally including monorepos

· Integration experience with varied APIs

· OAuth2 and OIDC

· A test-first, quality-driven approach

· Clear written and spoken communication

Nice to have

· Serverless (functions, queues, API management, key-value stores)

· Open source contributions

How you work

· Curious: you want to know how things work underneath, you try new tools, and you ask “why” before “how”.

· Proactive: you spot problems and fix them without waiting to be asked. You raise ideas, challenge assumptions, and take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks.

· Collaborative: you explain your thinking and help the rest of the team level up.

What we can offer you:

Opportunity to work at the forefront of AI technology

A chance to contribute to groundbreaking commerce AI solutions
