As a Staff Application Security Engineer at Datadog, you'll set technical direction for how we approach application security at scale. You'll define the frameworks, methodologies, and architectural patterns that engineering teams across Datadog adopt and apply independently. You're the person others come to when they don't know how to make something secure, and you reliably have an answer.
You'll be a point of contact for our most complex security programs, often spanning multiple teams and multiple quarters. The role requires both depth (going very deep on specific problems when needed) and breadth (recognizing patterns across systems and drawing connections that others miss). Partnering closely with teams inside and outside the security org is key to success. You'll help shape the AppSec roadmap and make the case for where investment should go.
We use our own platform. Logs, Dashboards, Service Catalog, and APM aren't just things we sell: they're tools the AppSec team uses to build security services, measure adoption of secure defaults, and communicate risk across the organization.
AI is also part of the picture. Engineering at Datadog increasingly uses agentic tooling throughout the development lifecycle, and many of the products we ship to customers now include AI-powered features. Both create new attack surfaces, and defining our strategy for addressing them is part of this role.

Who You Are:

Software engineering background with hands-on code review experience; Go (preferred), Python, or Rust

Demonstrated ability to level up the engineers around you: through design reviews, mentorship, and the quality of your documentation

Solid grounding in OWASP Top 10, web vulnerabilities (XSS, injection, access control, cryptography), SAST, and DAST

Working knowledge of API security: authentication flows, authorization patterns, and input validation at API boundaries

Track record of leading threat modeling on complex, multi-team systems and translating outcomes into architectural decisions

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in structural and/or architectural design, ideally involving industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, critical infrastructure, or similarly complex facilities.
- Demonstrated experience designing load-intensive facilities, including raised floors, heavy stationary equipment, and structures requiring detailed load calculations.
- Direct data center experience is beneficial but not mandatory; relevant experience from industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, or comparable environments is fully applicable.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Experience with at least one structural calculation package, such as Tekla Structures, Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis, IDEA StatiCa, or Dlubal RFEM.
- Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary designs and manage interfaces between structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines.
- Strong understanding of structural design principles, building layouts, space planning, and technical coordination.
- Ability to identify design risks, inconsistencies, and practical optimization opportunities in complex engineering documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working with international engineering teams and external stakeholders.
- English proficiency sufficient for international project documentation, technical discussions, and coordination.
- Working knowledge of local building codes and permitting processes is an advantage.
- Experience with Tier III/IV data center design standards is desirable.
- Familiarity with modular or POD-based data center construction is a plus.
- Experience designing facilities for high-density, liquid-cooled IT environments is beneficial.
- Polish language skills are an advantage.
- Experience supporting greenfield or brownfield projects through construction phases is highly valued.

As an MEP Design Engineer, you’ll contribute to the technical development of a major AI data center project with significant power and infrastructure requirements.

Accountabilities

- Coordinate modular facility architecture and ensure effective integration with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
- Develop gas fire suppression, ventilation, and OT/IT integration systems, including BMS and DCIM solutions.
- Review technical and design documentation provided by suppliers, contractors, and engineering partners, identifying risks, inconsistencies, and potential design gaps.
- Ensure MEP solutions comply with applicable regulatory, safety, reliability, and energy-efficiency requirements.
- Prepare, maintain, and update the Basis of Design and associated technical specifications.
- Participate in tender processes and evaluate technical proposals from vendors supplying generators, UPS systems, chillers, switchgear, and other critical equipment.
- Coordinate closely with IT Infrastructure teams to align power and cooling requirements with IT deployment needs.
- Support technical coordination throughout the project lifecycle and contribute to resolving design and integration challenges.
Requirements

- Demonstrated ownership of, or significant contribution to, Basis of Design documentation for large-scale facilities.
- At least 3 years of experience in a design leadership or technical leadership position.
- Strong technical knowledge of power distribution/topology and cooling strategies, with sufficient working knowledge of fire suppression and structural loading to coordinate effectively across disciplines.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design reviews and reviewing or approving engineering drawings across multiple technical trades.
- Strong ability to translate technical requirements into clear design standards, decisions, and execution requirements.
